Sarikaya Cave


Geographical Location and Arrival


Yalinkaya Village is reached by going in the direction of Buyuduz-Sasa-Yalinkaya from the branch separated from Eskisehir Mihaliccik road. It is possible to reach the cave by an hour of walking inside the deep canyon of Domya Creek from Yalinkaya.

Properties


The cave with a total length of 591 m. has two main entrances. It consists of three storeys connected to each other. There are numerous dripstone formations because of the humidity in the lower storey of the cave whose floor is covered with sand, pebbles and rubbles. These dripstones are in the forms of stalactite, stalagmite, pillar and wall and drapery dripstones and their formation is still continuing. The dripstone pools are mostly black and brown. The upper storeys are in the forms of fossils and poor of dripstones. The cave has a cold and humid air. The upper storey has a temperature of 13ºC, and a humidity percentage of 80%; the lower storey has a temperature of 10ºC and a humidity percentage of 90%.

The cave contains flintstones, chippings, ceramic and brick pieces and human bones, which means that the cave had been used in Prehistoric and Historic periods.


Yelinustu Cave


Geographical Location and Arrival


The cave is located at the southeast of the Sivrihisar Mountain lying between the Sivrihisar-Gunyuzu road and Sakarya River. It is possible to reach Kayakent Sub-district via Ankara-Eskisehir or Ankara-Polatli-Yunak highways. The cave is close to the Kayakent Sub-district.

Properties


The total length of the cave is 420 m. and the depth of the final point is at -90 m. in respect to the cave entrance. The second section is reached via a narrow gallery branching from the right side of the cave entrance. There are different kinds of dripstone formations inside the chamber covered with large blocks. This saloon expands two different saloons with the same formations.

The cave is dry during all seasons except for the rainy periods when the waters drip from the ceiling. There are cisterns and pools constructed to collect these dripping waters in old ages. The average temperature inside the cave is 20ºC and the humidity is 70%.

This cave displays similar properties with Yelini Cave, has certain remains and there are some remains and shapes proving that it had been used by humans for a long time inside the cave.


Yelini Cave


Geographical Location and Arrival


This cave is located at the south of the Yelinüstü Cave and is at the southeast of Sivrihisar Mountains lying between Sivrihisar and Gunyuzu Sakarya River.

Properties


The total length of the cave is 271 m. and the deepest point is at -26 m. in respect to the cave entrance.

The cave divided into many saloons and chambers because of the dripstones and large blocks fallen from the ceiling is covered with gorgeous dripstones in appearance. Generally, the temperature inside the cave decreases while the humidity increases as long as one walk from entrance to the end. The cave has a temperature of 25.5ºC and a humidity of 45% at the entrance and has a temperature of 16.1ºC and 79.5% of humidity in the final saloon.

This cave displays similar properties with Yelinüstü Cave and there are some remains and shapes proving that it had been used by humans for a long time inside the cave. Flintstones, chippings, axes and spearheads were found at the slopes and fields in front side of the cave. Various tools, bones, pottery pieces were also found at the entrance. There are cisterns and brick pools with a depth exceeding 2 m. are present at the saloon.
